The Southern-Asia Pacific Division (SSD) includes the southeast Asia countries of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Timor-Leste, as well as Vietnam. The region has a population of more than 675 million.
The Adventist Church in this division counts more than 1.6 million members, making it the fifth largest division worldwide. The Philippines and Indonesia provide the majority of this division’s members.
The Adventist Church in the region operates 782 primary schools, 231 secondary schools, and 17 colleges and universities. It also operates 19 hospitals and 20 medical clinics.
Two major publishing houses supply literature to some 5,000 literature evangelists.
Vegetarian restaurants near major shopping areas in several countries enable members to share a more healthful way of life to their neighbors.
A resurging Cambodia has benefited the Adventist Church there with growth in recent years. Membership in Vietnam has also grown steadily since the Adventist Church received official registration in the country in 2008.
The division is also home to the Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies, which is a graduate degree institution serving the world church in Asia.
